#Ex-Army captain now part of Proud Boys charged in Capitol riot

A former Army captain and Republican political candidate now part of the far-right Proud Boys militia mocked police officers as “traitors” while storming the US Capitol earlier this month, according to authorities and a report.

Gabriel Garcia, 40, faces charges including violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds for his alleged role in the deadly Jan. 6 riot perpetrated by supporters of President Trump attempting to derail Congress’ confirmation of Joe Biden’s election win, according to officials.

Videos posted to Garcia’s Facebook account captured his alleged actions during the riot, including a tense scuffle with US Capitol Police officers trying to maintain order, authorities wrote in court filings.

“We just went ahead and stormed the Capitol,” said Garcia as he approached the confrontation. “It’s about to get ugly.”

When officers stopped a rioter who tried to break through their line, Garcia could be heard on the video letting loose.

“You f–king traitors!” he allegedly yelled at the cops. “F–k you!”

As cops and rioters engaged in a tug of war over the invader who charged the line, Garcia allegedly threw an American flag into the fray, in an apparent attempt to shift the balance of power, according to the filings.

“You ain’t gonna hold a million back today. Sorry,” he allegedly went on to tell the cops. “Ain’t holding a million of us.”

Five people died during the course of the riot, including a USCP officer pepper-sprayed and beaten with a fire extinguisher.

In another video Garcia posted from the Capitol’s Rotunda, he bellowed a menacing message apparently meant for Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“Nancy, come out and play!” Garcia could be heard yelling in the clip.

“Free Enrique!” he added in the video, in what investigators believe was a reference to Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who was barred by a judge from entering Washington, DC on the day of the riot as he faces accusations of vandalizing a Black Lives Matter banner and carrying high-capacity firearm magazines.

Garcia, a former captain in the US Army, was referred to as “El Capitan” in another person’s post of images from the riot, according to authorities.

He also garnered 41 percent of the vote in an unsuccessful 2020 bid for a Florida state legislature seat, and openly identified as a member of the Proud Boys, according to The Miami Herald.

Garcia was granted a $100,000 bond during an appearance Tuesday evening in federal court in Miami, according to the paper.

It was not immediately clear if he had retained legal counsel to speak on his behalf.
