#Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Anime Film to Now Release in Japan on March 8, New Teaser Released

Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time

The official Evangelion website announced tonight that after two delays, both due to the coronavirus and State of Emergencies to combat the virus in Japan, Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, the “final” film in the Rebuild of Evangelion film franchise will finally be released in Japan on Monday, March 8. This includes the 4DX and IMAX versions of the anime film. A revised teaser of the film, set like a “Next Episode Preview”, which originally screened with Evangelion 3.333 re-release in theaters and on TV, was released online, giving fans the fanservice they need to keep going until release day.

Khara once again thanked healthcare staff for all their hard work in the post on the Evangelion website and remarked that “at this time, there are some areas that are under a State of Emergency, but we have made this announcement today because it is necessary to prepare theaters for the release of the film.” Six of the 10 prefectures under a State of Emergency will see the declaration lifted at the end of February, with Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures remaining until at least March 7.

Furthermore, over 3 million posters of Asuka drawn by animation director Atsushi Nishigori–who also drew the main poster of the film (below)– will be given out to attendees of the film in Evangelion 3.0+1.0 in Japan until stocks last. The poster will be B6-sized.

Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time is set to be the longest original Evangelion film yet (non-remake/compilation) clocking in at 2 hours and 34 minutes. Making the Khara-produced film the third-longest animated film ever after the 70mm version of Final Yamato, and The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. A showing of Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death (True)2/Air/Magokoro wo, Kimi ni is technically longer at 160 minutes but is a combination of the Death (True)2 compilation film from the original series, and The End of Evangelion.
