“Edgerunners Ending Song Gets Ilya Kuvshinov-directed Music Video”
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners‘s ending song, “Let You Down” by Dawid Podsiadło, has inspired an anime music video directed by illustrator and character designer Ilya Kuvshinov and produced by STUDIO MASSKET.
For the show itself, it was revealed earlier that the song would be accompanied by an ending sequence directed by Mai Yoneyama (“Yoku” director et al., “raison d’etre” character designer), who also handled the storyboards, concept art, and main animation.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will premiere on Netflix on September 13. Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red will host a watch party for the first three episodes on its Twitch channel first. The 10-episode anime is “about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
The staff includes Hiroyuki Imaishi (Promare, Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann) as director, Masahiko Otsuka (Promare, Gurren Lagann) as assistant director, and Yoh Yoshinari (BNA: Brand New Animal and Little Witch Academia director) and Yuuto Kaneko (BNA: Brand New Animal animation director) as character designers. Trigger is the animation production company.
Other staff include Yoshiki Usa (Working Buddies!, SSSS.DYNAZENON creative producer) as series composer, Usa and Otsuka as scriptwriters, and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill video game series) as music composer. Cyberpunk 2077 Business Development Director Rafał Jaki is the showrunner and executive producer.
Meanwhile, the cast includes KENN as David, Aoi Yuuki as Lucy, Hiroki Touchi as Maine, Michiko Kaiden as Dorio, Takako Honda as Kiwi, Wataru Takagi as Pilar, Tomoyo Kurosawa as Rebecca, Kazuhiko Inoue as Faraday, Yurika Hino as Gloria, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Ripperdoc.
Cyberpunk began as a tabletop role-playing game developed by Mike Pondsmith, with the first edition of the game being released in 1988. Later editions titled Cyberpunk 2020, Cyberpunk V3.0, and Cyberpunk Red were released in 1990, 2005, and 2020 respectively. The Cyberpunk 2077 first-person open world RPG, which was announced in 2012, was released in December 2020 after several delays. CD Projekt Red is also involved with the production of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
