#Drama builds as Trump counterprograms
Nine Republican presidential candidates will be on air tonight, in two forums.
While eight candidates gather in Milwaukee for the first debate of the 2024 GOP primary race, a pre-recorded Tucker Carlson interview of former President Trump will be broadcast simultaneously on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Trump’s interview starts five minutes ahead of the debate.
Trump declined to participate in the Republican National Committee (RNC) debate hosted by Fox News, citing his commanding lead. He leads the GOP field by around 40 points in national polls despite his legal troubles.
Candidates needed to meet certain requirements set by the RNC to be able to participate in Wednesday’s debate. In addition to polling requirements, to qualify, they needed at least 40,000 separate donors to their presidential campaign committee, with at least 200 from 20 or more states and territories.
