#At least 15 journalists have died in the Israel-Hamas war, with more missing

At least 15 journalists were killed in the Israel-Hamas war, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported in a statement Monday.

Of the 15 journalists killed since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel’s southern border on Oct. 7, 11 were Palestinian, three were Israeli and one was Lebanese.

An additional eight journalists were injured, and three were reported missing or detained, the statement said. Not all journalists were confirmed to be working when the casualties occurred.

The statement stressed the “high risks” journalists currently face in Gaza, as Israel prepares for a possible ground offensive and has released a barrage of airstrikes on the strip.

The statement also indicated that the organization was investigating reports of threats to journalists and of damage to media offices.

“CPJ emphasizes that journalists are civilians doing important work during times of crisis and must not be targeted by warring parties,” Sherif Mansour, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator, said in the statement released Monday.

“Journalists across the region are making great sacrifices to cover this heartbreaking conflict. All parties must take steps to ensure their safety,” Mansour continued.

CPJ published a list of journalists confirmed dead in the war, along with information about them and the details surrounding their deaths, injuries or abductions.

Since the war began, more than 4,000 people have died.
