#The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 Confirmed

A new teaser visual has been released for The Rising of the Shield Hero, confirming the production of a fourth season. An exact premiere date and additional information about the new season will be announced at a later date. 

The visual showcases a barren land in the idle of a thunderous background, with a dragon flying in the distance. 

The third season of The Rising of the Shield Hero was streamed by Crunchyroll outside of Japan. The first two seasons of the anime premiered in 2019 and 2022. At the end of season three, a potential fourth season was previously teased. 

The anime’s third season was directed by Hitoshi Haga (Made in Abyss assistant director) instead of Season 1’s Takao Abo or Season 2’s Masato Jinbou. Other new staff that worked on the season include Franziska van Wulfen (Bocchi the Rock! animation director) and Sana Komatsu (The Rising of the Shield Hero animation director), who worked on the character designs with the previous seasons’ Masahiro Suwa. 

The returning staff for season three include Keigo Koyanagi as series screenwriter and Kevin Penkin as music composer. Animation production company Kinema Citrus is sharing series composition and scriptwriting credits with Koyanagi. Season 2’s co-production company DR MOVIE was no longer listed in the main animation production credits.

Previous voice cast members from past seasons all reprised their respective roles. New cast members for the third season include Ami Koshimizu as Nadia, Kouhei Amasaki as Fohl, Konomi Kohara as Atla, and Maria Naganawa as S’yne. 

The Rising of the Shield Hero was originally a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2012. The anime is based on the light novels written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Seira Minami, which began on August 22, 2013 and has released 22 volumes as of 2019. The light novels are published under Kadokawa’s MF Books label.

A manga adaptation of the light novels by A. Kyu began in 2014. The series has also inspired spin-offs, a stage play, video games, and much more.

One Peace Books releases the light novels in English and describes the story as:

Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction.
