“#Dog walks 62 miles for 2 weeks to get back home”
Ping An, whose name translates approximately to “safe” (平安) in Chinese, reportedly walked for two weeks back to the eastern China city of Qidong, arriving understandably worse for wear, but recovering well, according to social-media sources.
The 1-year-old dog was spotted limping outside an office building on Oct. 26 and reportedly fed “meat buns” and dog food. Her rescuers took care of her immediate injuries, mostly on her feet, then took to social media in hopes of finding her owners.
While their home was being remodeled, Ping An’s family intended to leave her with friends 62 miles away in Nantong for several weeks, so she wouldn’t be upset by the persistent construction. But after four months of separation, the family learned their dog had gone missing from her temporary home without a trace.
For weeks, the families worried over Ping An’s whereabouts.
The poor pup looked “quite depressed after she was unable to find her owners,” the rescuers said, according to the Daily Mail.
“Ping An, you’ve worked hard. You just stay home from now on. [We] would never send you away,” said her owner in video footage shared on Chinese media.
The family also told reporters that they’d never again allow Ping An to leave their side.
