An adorable pooch broke loose from her owner at a high school relay race in Utah, bolted on to the track — and won by a hair, wild footage shows.
Holly the goldendoodle unleashed a lightning-fast sprint to overtake senior Gracie Laney, who was leading the pack at the Grizzly Invitational in Logan last weekend, according to video posted by KSL.
“At first, I thought it was another runner, and I was surprised because we had a pretty good lead,” Laney told the local station. “As it got closer, I thought, ‘That’s too small to be a person,’ and then I noticed it was a dog.”
The crowd can be heard cheering as the fast-moving furball zipped passed her two-legged competition to the finish line — winning the 4×200-meter event, paws down.
“After watching the video, I thought, ‘Holy cow, that dog is so fast,’” Laney told the Salt Lake Tribune. “So I thought it was kind of funny [that] I got beat by a dog.”
Laney said she nearly tripped over the pup’s leash crossing the line and was nervous about stepping on her with her spiked shoes.
Despite being upstaged by the underdog, she and her team ultimately took home first place, she said.
Animal lovers howled with glee over the footage, with one Youtube commenter quipping, “That dog deserves a D 1 [college athletic] scholarship.”
