Doctor Who fans are getting their first look at the 60th-anniversary specials set to air in November 2023. The trio of specials will feature the return of David Tennant as the time-traveling Doctor. In the U.S., the series will move to Disney+ following the airing of the special episodes on BBC America.

In the trailer, Tennant’s Doctor tries to come to terms with his return, as this is the first time the character has regenerated into a familiar form. Catherine Tate returns as Dona Noble, the 10th Doctor’s former companion who had her memory wiped. Neil Patrick Harris appears as The Celestial Toymaker, a villain in the original Doctor Who series’ third season in 1966. He was previously played by the late Michael Gough.

Others seen in the trailer include Jacqueline King as Donna’s mother, Yasmin Finney as Rose, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, and Karl Collins as Donna’s husband, Shaun.

Russell T. Davies, the returning showrunner of the sci-fi series, said the following about the release of the trailer by BBC, per TV Insider:

“We wanted to give fans, friends and families a lovely little Christmas present – with a promise that 2023 will be a riot of Doctor Who goodness!”

After the specials air, fans will see a new doctor in the form of Ncuti Gatwa. His arrival is also teased in the short trailer.
