#Dems should note his success in NYC’s primary

“If the Democratic Party fails to recognize what we did here in New York, they’re going to have a problem in the midterm elections, and they’re going to have a problem in the presidential election.”

That wasn’t some Republican, like Rudy Giuliani warning Dems to crack down on crime as he successfully did in the ’90s. It was one of the Democrats themselves, Eric Adams, urging party mates to note his performance in Tuesday’s Democratic mayoral primary, after he made public safety a top priority: Adams is in first place by a full 10 points after the first round of ranked-choice tallies.

“America is failing in running cities,” he declared — a charge aimed squarely at fellow Democrats who preside over most of America’s big cities, which are enduring an ugly surge in violent crime. Homicides in those cities are up 30 percent, as President Joe Biden himself admitted.

Democrats would be wise to listen. Abandoning their idiotic “Defund the Police” cries and relentless attempts to paint police as evil and, instead, bolstering cops and getting tough with violent criminals won’t just save lives; it can help them with voters, who polls show place public safety at the top of their concerns.

Some Democrats are already pivoting: Biden himself now wants mayors and governors to use COVID funds to hire more cops and beef up law-enforcement. Cities like Atlanta, Minneapolis and Baltimore are looking to add funds for crime-fighting.

If Adams becomes mayor, of course, he’ll have to do more than talk the talk. And he’ll face stiff resistance from the behind-the-curve, anti-police left. But if he lives up to his vows to restore public safety here, he’ll surely be a model for Dems. And a hero to New Yorkers.
