#De Blasio extends NYC once per week alternate side parking rules

New York City drivers will only have to move their cars for street-sweeping once a week “until further notice,” Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Friday.

The decision comes two months after de Blasio scaled back street cleaning, which was previously twice or more per week, “on a temporary basis.”

Streets will now be cleaned on the later day posted on existing signage, the DOT said.

Alternate-side parking was suspended entirely for much of March, April, May and June as the city grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The experience led the mayor to conclude that twice-weekly street cleaning “didn’t seem necessary” and “wasn’t fair to people,” he told reporter in June.
