“Cuomo is smirking at James’ scandal, but he still has worse to answer for”

News that a top aide to state Attorney General Letitia James resigned amid sex harassment complaints has Team Andrew Cuomo yelping about a “corrupt” double-standard, since she authored the harassment report that brought his downfall. But the ex-gov still benefits from Albany’s reluctance to confront his other, utterly indisputable sins.

We’re talking, of course, about the needless COVID deaths at nursing homes in the wake of his order that they admit COVID-positive patients and his coverup of the true death toll in those homes — which profited him directly by facilitating a remarkable book deal.

First the Legislature and then Gov. Kathy Hochul postponed serious inquiries into those outrages, though Hochul (eventually, after The Post accused her of reneging on her promise) launched an independent probe into the nursing-home issue, albeit one that still hasn’t produced a report.

Yet it’s long been clear that, at the behest of hospital execs, Cuomo ordered nursing and adult-care homes to admit thousands of COVID-positive patients that hospitals wanted to unload. Once the residents were readmitted, the virus spread like wildfire through those facilities.

Team Cuomo then actively covered up the true figures on deaths in the homes, going so far as to withhold data from the federal government.

An independent report probing Cuomo’s $5 million book deal concluded: “The Executive Chamber also successfully coerced [the state ethics board] into expediting the approval and rushing through the process with very minimal due diligence.” And Cuomo loyalists managed to hide even that report until a Post inquiry forced them to post it last August.

The ex-gov is plainly hoping to make a political comeback. If the state’s powers-that-be want to avoid that, they need to make sure New York finally gets a full, honest accounting of the Cuomo scandals they’ve so far refused to face.
