#Couple who said son tried to kill himself charged with murder

A Las Vegas couple claimed their 8-year-old son tried to kill himself — but were soon charged with his murder when investigators discovered his “physical abuse” injuries, police said.

Cops in Las Vegas got a 911 call from Leon Gritz, 27, early Saturday from an apartment complex where the man said his son had attempted suicide.

Responding cops and paramedics found the young boy unresponsive and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said Saturday.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the boy had “substantial injuries” believed to be the result of “physical abuse and neglect” by Gritz and the child’s 28-year-old mother, Christina Gritz, police said.

The pair were taken into custody on one count of open murder. They remained held without bond Monday at the Clark County Detention Center on a first-degree murder charge, online records show.

The identity of the couple’s son, as well as his cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office, police said.

A spokeswoman at the coroner’s office said she had no additional information to provide on the case when reached by The Post early Monday.

The couple had their initial court appearance set for Sunday, KVVU reported. They are expected to return on Tuesday, records show. It’s unclear if they’ve hired attorneys who could speak on their behalf.
