“Could the Quantum Leap Reboot Connect to the Stargate Franchise?”
At best, such a connection would be unofficial because MGM owns the Stargate franchise. But it would not be outside the realm of possibility for Gero to put in a sneaky link to the franchise. Gero has been known to put such connections into his shows in the past.
One of Gero’s first production credits in Hollywood was as an executive producer on Stargate: Atlantis. He was an executive producer on all episodes of Stargate: Atlantis and had a hand in crafting that show. It is through his work with Stargate: Atlantis that he has, in the past, connected other shows that he’s been involved with to the Stargate franchise.
For example, in the show Blindspot, which he also executive produced on, there was a small connection to Stargate: Atlantis that fans of the franchise would absolutely have caught immediately. In the season three episode of Blindspot entitled “Let It Go,” we are introduced to the father of the character Patterson, who is Bill Nye played by Bill Nye. During the course of the episode, Bill Nye mentions that his wife co-authored a paper with his arch-nemesis, Rodney McKay. This, of course, is a reference to when Bill Nye made an appearance on Stargate: Atlantis and Rodney McKay, one of the lead scientists on the Atlantis base, accused him of stealing his ideas during that episode.
While this is a tenuous connection at best, it absolutely connects the two shows, even though it is in an unofficial way.
How Could Quantum Leap Connect to the Stargate Franchise?
As mentioned, any connection between Quantum Leap and the Stargate franchise would be unofficial at best. The two programs are owned by different companies, and therefore any connection would have to be a simple reference and not something that would directly refer to the stargate or any of the aliens or technology from the show.
That being said, as seen by the connection done in Blindspot, such a connection is possible. But what would such a connection look like in Quantum Leap?
The connection would have to be subtle, so it would have to be something that was a “blink and you’ll miss it” type of reference. Maybe, much like Blindspot, it would be simply a reference to one of the characters from Stargate: Atlantis. Although unlikely, perhaps it could be something like Bill Nye making an appearance as a scientist coming in to consult on the Quantum Leap project.
There remains to be seen if Gero will put in such a connection. It is entirely possible he will not, but by the same token, he does have a history of connecting his shows to Stargate: Atlantis. And it would be a fun Easter egg if he were to do so again.
