#Coffee Meets Bagel lets singles declare vaccination status

Do you have a shot at love?

Coffee Meets Bagel, a San Francisco-based dating app, is adding a person’s COVID-19 vaccine status to their individual profiles. Specifically, a tab at the top of a profile — above descriptions of the love-seeker’s personality and interests — can reveal if the user has gotten the jab, or if they prefer not to say.

The new profile addition comes from a Q&A prompt in the app, which asks whether the user is fully vaccinated, declines to reveal the status, is waiting on an additional dose, plans to get vaxxed or does not plan to. The responses then lead to each profile, and they can be updated at anytime.

This new feature comes as some 19% of the US population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, as many question which activities — like dating — are safe for those who are vaccinated.

On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidelines for those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Among the guidance: People who have been vaccinated can gather indoors — and without masks — with others who have done the same.

The app allows you to declare if you're fully vaccinated, waiting on an additional dose, planning to get vaxxed or not planning on it. There's also an option to decline.

However, Vogue noted that the preliminary data show the vaccines reduce transmission of the virus onto others. But it isn’t clear if it reduces the risk enough — or if the vaccines protect against enough of the coronavirus variants.

In June, researchers at Harvard University concluded that hooking up carries some risk of transmission — and that couples should wear masks while getting busy.
