#CNN reporter calls Biden ‘President-elect Joebama’

Freudian slip or does the Joe Biden era already feel a little old?

A CNN reporter accidentally referred to the president-elect as “Joebama” during a live shot Tuesday, combining his name with that of the man he served as vice president and from whose administration much of his staff and cabinet picks are derived.

“President-elect Joebama — uh, Joe Biden, rather — did finish speaking here just a short time ago,” said veteran journalist Jeff Zeleny, catching and correcting his own mistake.

Zeleny had the slip of the tongue while reporting to “Situation Room” host Wolf Blitzer on Biden’s stumping in Georgia on behalf of Democratic Senate candidates Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

Prior to his own winning White House run, Biden served as vice president under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017.

Zeleny’s unintentional portmanteau may be apt: as Biden puts together his cabinet and White House staff, observers have noticed that their ranks include many Obama-era returnees.

Biden’s nominees to head the state department, treasury, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Veterans Affairs — respectively Antony Blinken, Janet Yellen, Alejandro Mayorkas and Denis McDonough — all served under Obama in some capacity.

Biden is also bringing back some members of his vice presidential team, including incoming White House chief of staff Ron Klain.
