Channel Tres has been defying the prescribed boundaries of dance music and hip-hop since his self-titled debut EP dropped in 2018. The Compton producer/rapper has since collaborated with upper-crust artists of both forms, from Tyler to Baauer, Peggy to Disclosure, and beyond — broadening his horizons still further last summer and fall on tour with Thundercat. Today he’s shared Acid/Ganzfield, a double A-side comprising new singles “Acid In My Blood” and “Ganzfield Experiment,” as well as their respective instrumentals.

The new songs recall the afrofuturist techno experiments of Drexciya, who created an alternate electronic universe in ’90s Detroit. “Try and tell me this ain’t Black music,” Channel Tres says in the opening moments of “Acid In My Blood,” his voice barely above a whisper. “Well it ain’t. It’s Black precision. And I’m precise as they can be.”
