#British Sea Power Change Name to Sea Power, Share New Song “Two Fingers”: Listen

British Sea Power—the English alternative band of brothers Yan and Hamilton Wilkinson, Martin Noble, Matthew Wood, Abi Fry, and Phil Sumner—have announced a name change. The group will henceforth be known as Sea Power. Today’s announcement comes with the release of a new song called “Two Fingers.” Listen below.

“The band have been thinking about changing their name for years now. It’s become clear that it’s possible to misapprehend the name British Sea Power as indicating nationalism of an insular, jingoistic nature,” reads a statement in a press release. “Twenty years on from their inception, Sea Power now sail forth, free of any national flag of convenience. The new band name is a modest gesture of separation from the wave of crass nationalism that has traversed our world recently.”

The statement continues: “After all, this group have always been internationalist in outlook, as made clear in several songs, most notably Waving Flags, a hymn to pan-European congress. The name Sea Power is also a shorthand by which the band’s audience have long known the group.”

Sea Power’s most recent album Let the Dancers Inherit the Party was released in 2017. The band will release its next record, Everything Was Forever, on February 11, 2022. Find the tracklist and album over below.
