#Bob Saget Shares Hilarious Betty White Story to Honor the Comedy Legend

The worst news of the entire year came on the very last day with the announcement that Betty White has died on New Year’s Eve. A star of The Golden Girls and one of the most beloved performers in history, White was just two weeks shy of her 100th birthday when the news of her passing was broken. Because White is just as loved by those in Hollywood as by her fans, many of her celebrity friends have been paying tribute.

One of these tributes comes from fellow comedy actor Bob Saget. For his part, Saget’s memories of White go all the way back to his teenage years when he’d sneak into the set of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and watch her perform. At the time, he probably had no idea he’d one day become good friends with White and learn how remarkably wonderful she would turn out to be in person. As Saget says in a Facebook post:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Betty White. This amazing woman was exactly who you wanted her to be. Razor sharp wit, smart, kind, hilarious, sincere, and so full of love. From the first time I snuck into The Mary Tyler Moore Show at 15 years old and watched her hit everything she said out of the park, to decades later, getting to hang out with her on several occasions, I had a small peek into what a remarkable talent and human being Betty was.”

Saget takes the opportunity to share one of his favorite memories of White. At one point while working with ABC, Saget and White were flying together on a jet while enjoying some drinks. Saget, who’s now very well-known for his raunchy humor, jokingly asked White to join him in the bathroom to join the “Mile High Club.” Because White was so quick-witted, she clapped back with the perfect response before Saget could even finish what he was saying.

“We were on an ABC jet once for a junket and I was sitting across from her, both of us sipping Bloody Mary’s. We had been laughing for hours— I looked into her eyes and faux romantically said, ‘How ‘bout it, Betty, you and me in the bathroom? Mile High Club?’ She answered me before I had a chance to finish the invite— ‘Of course, Bob, you go in there first and I’ll meet you as soon as I finish my drink.’ And then of course she went right to sipping from her straw. I waited in that bathroom for over two hours. (That would be the joke on a joke part, in case you take things literally.)”

After Betty White’s passing, her agent spoke about how the 99-year-old didn’t fear death, always believing she’d be reunited with her late husband. Bob Saget admits he has no idea what really happens in the afterlife, but he’s happy to “defer to Betty” on this matter. Saget also makes it clear how much White will be missed, a sentiment shared by the rest of us.

“She always said the love of her life was her husband, Allen Ludden, who she lost in 1981. Well, if things work out by Betty’s design— in the afterlife, they are reunited. I don’t know what happens when we die, but if Betty says you get to be with the love of your life, then I happily defer to Betty on this. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. Betty White. My God we will miss you.”

It doesn’t seem like there could have been a worse way to end the year, especially with so much excitement heading into 2021 with White’s birthday around the corner. The comedy legend and iconic actress will forever be missed by friends and fans alike. Rest in peace, Betty White, and thank you for making the world a much better place for the past century.
