#Billion-Dollar Blockbuster ‘Barbie’ Is Coming to Home Theater Land: When and How to Stream Online

Barbie is breaking out of movie land and into home theaters. Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking film starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken will be streaming starting Tuesday, but those on the West Coast can watch it as early as Monday.

The film follows Barbie and Ken as they step out of Barbie Land and into the real world and also stars Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Dua Lipa, Ritu Arya, Michael Cera and Emerald Fennell as Mattel dolls in the flesh and America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt and Will Ferrell as humans, with Helen Mirren serving as narrator.

Long before Barbie premiered in July, it spawned countless fashion and beauty collaborations, and Airbnb brought back its Malibu DreamHouse (with a Kenergy makeover) to celebrate the movie.

The fashion world immediately embraced Barbiecore a year before the movie even landed in theaters, with designers including Valentino creating bold pink looks for its Fall/Winter 2022 Pink PP collection. During the Barbie press tour in Los Angeles, Sydney, Seoul, Mexico City and London, Gerwig and her stars sported their best beyond-Barbie Land looks on the pink carpet. On set, Robbie enacted a weekly “pink day” where she would collect fines (which were donated to charity) from those who failed to wear something in the film’s signature color.

How to Stream Barbie Online

Barbie will be available to buy on digital starting Sept. 11 at 9 p.m. PT/Sept. 12 at midnight ET on Amazon, Apple and other video-on-demand platforms.

A streaming date has not yet been announced, but Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said in an Aug. 3 earnings call that the film will be put through the standard theatrical release window. “Take it through these windows of economics that have worked forever, and we think work extremely well, and then put it on Max,” he said. “When [Barbie] goes on Max, we think it will have a very good impact, and that will be in the fall.”

Subscribers of Amazon’s Prime or Prime Video services can watch Barbie for free when they sign up for the Max channel, which has a seven-day trial. After the first week, Max on Amazon Prime Video costs $16 per month in addition to the subscription fees for Prime membership ($15 monthly or $139 annually) or the standalone Prime Video service ($9 monthly).
