#Eric Adams speaks at 25th anniversary ‘Chicago’ show to pump tourism

Broadway is back — and all that jazz.

Mayor-elect Eric Adams made surprise appearance at the Ambassador Theater Tuesday night for the 25th anniversary of the hit musical Chicago — part of a push to pump up Big Apple tourism as COVID-19 restrictions begin to wane.

“It feels good to be back on Broadway!” Adams said to the sold-out crowd during the show’s intermission.

“I remember as a police officer being part of protecting the citizens in the theater district, and I just want to say thank you for coming back out and showing how much we have gotten Covid under control,” he added.

“I love this city, and most importantly, I love the people in this city. Let’s continue to make this the great city that it is.”

One woman in the audience responded: “We love you Mr. Mayor!”

Adams met with the cast of Chicago during his visit and shared a few words with the show’s producer, Barry Weissler.

Weissler told The Post he was “thrilled” at Adams’ show of support.

“He’s bringing fresh new energy to the city and I think to theater. I think he gets it and we’re good for business.”

Adams’ pop-up speech came after he taped an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to promote Broadway and the city.

Audience members at the CBS taping were all given tickets to Chicago.

The mayor-elect walked the two blocks from the Colbert studio to the theater.

Adams’ Broadway stunt is part of a push by city officials to get tourists to The Great White Way — and the rest of the city after nearly two years of pandemic restrictions.

Earlier this month, the New York City Marathon returned to the five boroughs, as the city’s famed restaurants are banking on a revival as out-of-towners return to Midtown — albeit with lingering COVID restrictions.
