#NJ man accused of murdering hunter arrested

A man accused of killing a hunter on a New Jersey reservation was arrested in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, authorities said.

Shawn Massey, 38, of Gibbsboro, allegedly murdered 54-year-old Joseph Bottino on Dec. 23, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

Cops had started a manhunt for Massey on Saturday in connection with the homicide.

He was picked up by local police at about 4 p.m. Tuesday in Bensalem.

Authorities said Massey was taken into custody without incident. He is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.

Massey allegedly murdered Bottino at the Pine Hill Scout Reservation, where the victim frequently hunted.

Evidence found at the scene led investigators to Massey, whose relatives reported him missing days after Bottino was found dead, Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer and Pine Hill police said.

Relatives told authorities that Massey has diagnosed mental health issues and has been known to “possibly become aggressive” if approached.

Bottino, a married father of two, was remembered as a man with an “infectious kindness” who loved his family “ferociously,” according to an online fundraiser.

“Joe Bottino Sr. was found fatally brutalized in Pine Hill, NJ, while out hunting in one of his favorite locations,” the website reads. “An enormous heart equates to an enormous loss, which the family is still coming to terms with.”
