Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon Anime Coming in Fall 2025, Teaser Trailer and Visual Revealed
The Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon TV anime adaptation (full title: Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: My Trusted Companions Tried to Kill Me, But Thanks to the Gift of an Unlimited Gacha I Got LVL 9999 Friends and Am Out For Revenge on My Former Party Members and the World) has gotten a teaser trailer and visual, as well as the reveal of its Fall 2025 anime season premiere.
Also announced were the anime’s main staff and cast. The latter includes Nina Tamaki as Light and Ikumi Hasegawa as Mei.
Meanwhile, the production credits include Katsushi Sakurabi (Flying Witch, Lostorage incited WIXOSS, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion) as director, Hiroshi Onogi (Blue Archive: The Animation [co-credits], Idol Memories) as series composer and scriptwriter, and Yukie Suzuki (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy) as character designer. J.C.STAFF is the animation production studio.
Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon is based on the light novel series written by Meikyou Shisui and illustrated by tef. J-Novel Club describes the premise as:
When Light is kicked out of the Concord of the Tribes, his former comrades instantly turn on him. Light escapes this diabolical act of betrayal by the skin of his teeth…only to find himself in the deepest part of the Abyss, the most dangerous dungeon in the realm! To avoid being eaten by carnivorous monsters, he uses the Unlimited Gacha, his sole magical skill. But where it previously only produced junk items, this time Mei—a gorgeous Level 9999 fighter in a maid outfit—springs forth! Fast forward three years and Light has carved out his own kingdom in this backwater dungeon, summoning more beautiful Level 9999 warriors who swear absolute fealty to him. Now a powerful Level 9999 Overlord himself, Light plans to ascend to the surface and take revenge on his betrayers one by one!
The series is published under Hobby Japan’s HJ Novels label and will release Volume 12 on April 18, 2025 JST. There is a manga adaptation by Takafumi Oomae, licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.
The story began as a Shousetsuka ni Narou web novel in 2020.
