Evangelion 3.0+1.0

Yesterday was the last day that the “final” Evangelion anime film, Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, and its revised version, 3.0+1.01, was shown widely across Japan. After a delay, the film finally opened on March 10, 2021, and ran for 136 days, ending on July 21, grossing a total of 10.22 billion yen ($91.84 million) over its run, the official Twitter account for the franchise revealed today.

The 10.22 billion yen ($91.84 million) was made on the back of a nice 6.69 million tickets sold to theatergoers. Evangelion 3.0+1.0 was a complete success at the Japanese, currently standing at the 35th highest-grossing film in Japan of all time and the 9th highest-grossing anime film in Japan of all time. It was the first Evangelion film to achieve the milestone of 10 billion yen and was only a little over 1 billion yen shy of grossing the same amount as the first three Rebuild of Evangelion films combined in Japan.

While Evangelion 3.0+1.0 ‘s wide release has ended, the film is still showing in a limited number of smaller theaters in Japan.

International fans of the series will be able to watch the revised Evangelion 3.0+1.01: Thrice Upon a Time when it streams on Amazon Prime Video on August 13 around the world.
