“#Anime Doesn’t Make the Cut for 2021 Academy Awards Nominations”
This morning, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas were beamed into everyone’s homes to announce the nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards. While there were plenty of anime films to consider for this year’s Animated Feature Film category—from ON-GAKU: Our Sound to the record-shattering Demon Slayer movie—none made the cut.
Just like last year, anime was a complete no-show in the nominations, which include Onward, Over the Moon, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Soul, and Wolfwalkers.
Other anime films that were eligible this year were Earwig and the Witch, Lupin the 3rd: The First, Ride Your Wave, and A Whisker Away.
