#Amani Toomer rips ‘sad’ state of Giants in explosive rant

Amani Toomer is losing patience with the Giants, fast.

The franchise’s all-time leading receiver ranted about the team’s struggles and poor body language in an appearance on New York Post’s “Blue Rush” podcast following the Giants’ abysmal 1-5 start.

“I dig into the body language, right,” Toomer said. “… Are they excited, are they edged up? They didn’t seem that way to me. It’s easy for me to say but the amount of points they got beat by [the Rams] didn’t look like they were excited.”

Toomer said he likes that coach Joe Judge doesn’t make excuses, and doesn’t yet want to judge Daniel Jones. But the bottom line is, the Giants need to win more than they are.

“They don’t look like a team that belongs on the field,” Toomer said. “It’s almost like they were playing Alabama. It’s really sad to see the state of the Giants right now.”

Toomer, who won Super Bowl XLII as a member of the Giants, said he spoke to owner John Mara before Sunday’s game and found him bothered. The lack of depth in comparison to the amount of money the Giants are spending is the problem, he said.

“Don’t tell me about the Saquon [Barkleys],” Toomer said. “Tell me about the guys that are gonna step up when one of those guys gets hurt. That’s what we’re missing. You look at the Ravens, they’re missing all these players. They bring in players and they are still a competitive team. It’s not like everybody’s packed it up.

“It’s just very sad to see that this team doesn’t have the depth that they deserve, because we pay the same amount of money as everybody.”

Toomer also showed concern with the play-calling, particularly sending Jones on a QB sneak on fourth-and-1 last week when he was coming off a concussion.

“You’re like, wait, do they even pay attention to what’s going on?” Toomer said. “Or are they just calling plays and not even thinking about the quarterback’s health?”

It would be somewhat surprising if Judge’s job was in danger after just his second year, but with the Giants playing so poorly, some sort of change may be inevitable.

“At the end of the day, if you’re not winning, that group isn’t gonna stay together,” Toomer said.
