“#ACLU botches Twitter tribute to RBG”
The American Civil Liberties Union is being ripped for a woke tribute to late women’s rights champion Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg — in which they changed her words to erase her use of “woman,” “she” and “her.”
The nonprofit tweeted the tribute to the “champion” of “gender equality” on Saturday — the first anniversary of her death — saying, “We miss you, RBG. Your legacy lives on in this fight.”
The ACLU then posted one of Ginsburg’s famous quotes, but altered five sections to make women “people” and all pronouns “they” or “their.”
“The decision whether or not to bear a child is central to a [person’s] life, to [their] well-being and dignity,” the altered quote read, hiding Ginsburg’s original use of “woman” and “her.”
“When the government controls that decision for [people], [they are] being treated as less than a fully adult human responsible for [their] own choices,” the ACLU posted, again hiding “her” and “she.”
The tribute quickly backfired — with many insisting Ginsburg herself would have been “horrified.”
“You’re literally erasing her as you write this. Stop,” @UrlNat tweeted in reply to the group, a sentiment shared by Greg Scott, senior vice president of communications at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

“She would turn in her grave to see you erasing the women whose oppression she fought all her Life,” someone else insisted.
Award-winning reporter Kim Willsher also pointed out that it is “dishonest and misleading” to change someone’s words “especially when someone is no longer around to approve the change.”
Others noted the irony of the ACLU making the change while claiming to be honoring Ginsburg’s memory.
“YOU MISS HER? RESPECT HER MEMORY THEN,” someone tweeted, sharing Ginsburg’s original quote, while another person asked, “Then why did you censor her?”
“Apparently, you don’t miss her enough to quote her accurately,” @Tobydad tweeted, while someone else said, “The one thing you’re missing are her actual words.”
