“#A New Slam Dunk Anime Movie Is In The Works”
Mangaka Inoue Takehiko tweeted today that Slam Dunk is getting a new anime movie.
Details are scarce, but the official website for the movie reveals that Toei Animation, who was in charge of animation production for the 1993 anime series adaptation of the basketball manga, is involved. The title is yet to be decided, according to the movie’s Twitter page description.
The 1993 anime starred Takeshi Kusao (the Game Master from I’m Standing on a Million Lives) as protagonist Hanamichi Sakuragi and Akiko Hiramatsu (Catarina Clae’s mother in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!) as his love interest Haruko Takagi. Other cast members included Kiyoyuki Yanada as team captain Takemori Akagi, Hikaru Midorikawa as Hanamichi’s rival Kaede Rukawa, Ryoutarou Okiayu as shooting guard Hisashi Mitsui, Yoku Shioya as point guard Miyagi Ryouta, Hideyuki Tanaka as vice-captain Kimiyobu Kogure, and Tomomichi Nishiora as coach Mitsuyoshi Anzai.
Crunchyroll describes the show as:
