The core gang is all still alive (well, minus Ben)

We didn’t lose any living members of the Hargreeves family in Season 1; Luther (Tom Hopper), Allison (Emmy Raver), Diego (David Castenada), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Vanya (Ellen Page) are all still with us. That said, it’s far from certain what state they’ll be in after their time-traveling, since the last few seconds of the season saw them turn back into their younger selves.

Hazel and Agnes are still around, too

The Hargreeves family had Five to get them out of the apocalypse, but Hazel (Cameron Britton) and Agnes (Sheila McCarthy) used a briefcase to get out of that timeline. Will we see them again? That’s not totally clear, but it’d almost be nice if we didn’t: they deserve a happy ending, and to not be dragged back into the Hargreeves family’s chaos.

But don’t expect to see Cha-Cha or the Handler

Because neither of them survived the end of the world. The Handler (Kate Walsh) met her end via Hazel (that’s what she gets for threatening Agnes!), and Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige) was swallowed by the apocalypse’s flames. “Mom” and Pogo didn’t make it, either, thanks to Vanya.

Ben’s back… kind of

Klaus can’t permanently raise him from the dead, but he can manifest him into the realm of the living — so strongly, in fact, that others are able to see him and he can interact with people.

Allison can’t talk

There’s an excellent chance time travel will heal her damaged vocal chords, but as of the last seconds of Season 1, Allison’s “rumor-ing” days were on hold, if not done. It’s unclear whether Season 2 will address that, or if it’ll be waved away once the family reaches its destination. She seems just fine in the Season 2 promotional pictures.

Luther and Vanya probably won’t be friends

We know, we know… Luther’s not the most popular with viewers, either. But there’s a good chance he and Vanya won’t get along when they all end up where they’re going: If Luther hadn’t tricked her, locked her in a cell and made her re-live all of her childhood trauma, the Earth probably wouldn’t have exploded. Nice going, moon man.

Hargreeves might not have been human

One of the weirder aspects of the finale was how it half-explained Hargreeves’ (Colm Feore) backstory by showing him on a different planet. If you’ve read the comics, you’ll already know he’s an alien and the source material doesn’t make a big deal out of it. But if you only watched the show, it’s a pretty shocking thing to learn. The Hargreeves siblings don’t appear to know that their “dad” wasn’t human, so it’ll be interesting to see whether they find out more about him in Season 2.

There are other superpowered kids

Hargreeves only got seven of them — but there were 43 children born under the same circumstances as the Umbrella Academy. Since the group’s traveling back in time, it’s not clear whether they’ll discover more “siblings,” but they have to be out there somewhere.

It’s Ben (ha!) a while since we’ve checked in with the Hargreeves siblings — about a year and a half, in fact. And although things haven’t been great in 2020, at least it’s not as bad as what happened in the Season 1 finale; as of yet, the moon hasn’t exploded and caused the apocalypse. So… that’s good, right? Right.

With Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy premiering on July 31, here are some key facts to remember from the first 10 episodes.
