#6-year-old boy shot during J’Ouvert party in surgery, had just gotten out of cab

The 6-year-old boy who was among five shot during J’Ouvert celebrations in Brooklyn was in surgery Monday morning, sources said, as police revealed his mother was also struck by gunfire.

The boy, identified by sources as Maxwell Cesc-Vinho, was blasted in the leg and his mom, Patricia Bratwaith, was struck in the foot just before 3 a.m. as they got out of a cab on the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Crown Street.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison, who was at the scene Monday morning, told reporters that the mother and son had just arrived at the party when shots broke out.

“What we have right now is she was getting out of a cab with her son and then two individuals pulled out firearms and started shooting and they were both struck,” Harrison said.

Bratwaith’s sister and daughter were at the scene Monday morning but declined to comment.

Three others were also injured in the melee — Flavian Yves, 40, Bob Charlotin, 46, and Kelly Barthold, 34, sources said.

Harrison said the shooting appeared to be gang-related. It is unclear which of the victims, if any, were intended targets.

Yves was shot in the left foot, while Charlotin and Barthold were both struck in the right leg.

All of the victims were taken to Kings County Hospital and are expected to survive.

Two people were arrested pending charges. One firearm was recovered at the scene, sources said.
