Arooj Aftab: Vulture Prince [New Amsterdam]

Dedicated to the memory of her late younger brother Maher, Vulture Prince is the second full-length album from Brooklyn-based Pakistani composer Arooj Aftab. The album is “is about revisiting places I’ve called mine. Places that don’t necessarily exist anymore,” according to Aftab. Vulture Prince, which includes “Mohabbat” and “Last Night,” follows Aftab’s 2015 debut Bird Under Water and the 2018 collection Siren Islands.

Ethel Cain: Inbred EP [Daughters of Cain]

Elthel Cain is the stage name and alter ego of Hayden Anhedönia, a Florida-born singer-songwriter now living in Indiana. Trough her music, the 23-year-old processes her strict religious upbringing with her experience as a young trans woman. “Life is very raw and visceral, and it’s almost harder for me to live through rose-colored glasses. So I’m going to write about what really happens,” Cain explained in an interview with Pitchfork.

Dinosaur Jr.: Sweep It Into Space [Jagjaguwar]

Sweep It Into Space, partially recorded and co-produced with Kurt Vile, follows 2016’s Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. Dinosaur Jr. shared “Take It Back,” “Garden,” and “I Ran Away” (which also features Vile on 12-string guitar) from the record in the weeks leading up to its release.

Topaz Jones: Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma [New Funk Academy]

It’s been five years since New Jersey rapper Topaz Jones released his debut album Arcade, and he returns with the new Don’t Go Tellin’ Your Momma. The sophomore effort is accompanied by a short film that was honored with the Short Film Jury Award: Nonfiction at Sundance earlier this year.

Celtic folklore and classic horror tales heavily inspired Pulling Teeth, a six-song EP from London-based DJ and producer LCY. Pulling Teeth expands on characters that LCY began developing two years ago, exploring a “post-human, post-human friendly AI landscape” populated by robots building a creation with a human brain.
