#Washington hits snag with the new NFL name they want

Daniel Snyder and the Washington football team know what it wants to rename itself after announcing it was retiring the Redskins moniker. It just can’t do so yet. The replacement is tied up in a trademark fight, The Washington Post reported.

The name change, announced by the team on Monday, came about after years of haggling and prodding. It wasn’t until sponsors, such as FedEx, Nike, Amazon and Target, pressured Snyder that it came to fruition. Now the question is what will be the name Washington will go by?

In recent weeks, trademarking guru Martin McCaulay applied for several potential names, Pro Football Talk reported. He applied for Redtails, Renegades, Monuments, Veterans and Red-Tailed Hawks. It’s uncertain if any of those are the one Snyder has zeroed in on. Reports last week indicated Warriors was the frontrunner.

A lot goes into a name change. It’s more than just what a team is called. Washington will have to change everything – from its logo to patents to trademarks to what appears on stationary, marketing materials, moving supplies and many other things. And it isn’t helping matters that there is a trademark battle being waged for the name Snyder wants his team to use.
