“Your Honor to End with Season 2 on Showtime, Bryan Cranston Says”
Cranston spoke about the current status of Your Honor season 2 on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast (per Deadline). The actor revealed that season 2 will be the last season of Your Honor, referring to the high ratings as the reason why another season was made. Showtime has not officially confirmed Cranston’s announcement that season 2 will end Your Honor, but the Emmy winner seems pretty confident that the series won’t go beyond two seasons.
“I am [currently] preparing for the second and last season of Your Honor, which is a limited series that I did for Showtime. As they tell me, it got higher ratings than any other series they’ve ever had — and so, one more season of that.”
It has also been reported that season 1 writer Joey Hartstone is serving as series showrunner for the second season. Keith Machekanyanga has also been upped from a recurring star to a series regular for season 2, reprising his role as Lil Mo. Peter Moffat executive produces the series with Robert and Michelle King, Liz Glotzer, Cranston and James Degus for Moonshot Entertainment, Rob Golenberg, Alon Aranya, Ron Ninio, Shlomo Mashiach, Ram Landes, Ron Eilon, and Danna Stern.
Your Honor Was a Tremendous Hit for Showtime
Your Honor is based on the Israeli television series Kvodo and stars Bryan Cranston as Michael Desiato, a New Orleans judge whose son Adam (Hunter Doohan) kills another young man (Benjamin Wadsworth) who just so happens to be the son of a local mafia kingpin (Michael Stuhlbarg). While Michael was initially set on having his son turn himself in, he decides to bend the law and do whatever it takes in order to keep what happened a secret from the victim’s dangerous family.
The series had the most-watched debut season on Showtime in the cabler’s history with 6.6 million weekly viewers. Even though the series was not designed to move forward with a second season, great efforts were made at Showtime to get another season made, though given Cranston’s recent comments, there may only be just enough story to get one more season out of Your Honor before wrapping up.
At the time of the show’s renewal, Showtime’s co-president of entertainment, Gary Levine, said in a statement:
“We were blown away by Your Honor … by the power of Peter’s storytelling, by the depth of Bryan’s performance, and by the overwhelming reaction from our subscribers who watched in record numbers. Imagine our delight when we learned that Peter believed he had more story to tell and Bryan felt he had more depths to plumb. So, along with its millions of fans, I am gleefully shouting ‘Encore!'”
A premiere date hasn’t been announced for season 2 of Your Honor.
