#Yankees try to fool Rays with Deivi Garcia bait-and-switch

Deivi Garcia’s postseason debut didn’t last long.

The 21-year-old became the youngest pitcher to start a playoff game in Yankee history, surpassing Whitey Ford, but he was removed after just one inning for J.A. Happ in Game 2 of the ALDS on Tuesday night in San Diego.

Garcia ended up being used as an opener, allowing a two-out solo homer to Randy Arozarena in the bottom of the first before getting out of the inning after 27 pitches.

Happ was warming up during the first inning, likely with the idea of having the Rays set their lineup to face the right-handed Garcia before going to the lefty Happ.

It was a rough second inning for the Yankees and Happ, who gave up a two-run homer to Rays catcher Mike Zunino in his first inning of work.
