Yankees podcast CC Sabathia Pinstripe Pod
N.Y. Post: Charles Wenzelberg

The Yankees rotation is going to need to go deeper in games if they want any chance to win a title this season. The Bronx Bombers are off to a sluggish 5-7 start early in the season. The rotation has struggled. The bats have not been consistently hitting. There’s been some reasons for concern early on.

To talk about that along with having an incredible conversation with CC Sabathia, we bring you a new episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and Jeff Nelson.

Pinstripe Pod Opening Segment with Chris & Jeff:

  • STARTING PITCHING: Yankees have got off to a bad start. Rotation is a big question mark. Jameson Taillon and Corey Kluber are not giving them length. After Gerrit Cole, they have issues with the starters.
  • YANKEES LINEUP/DEFENSE: Jay Bruce has been terrible. Missing Luke Voit more than they expected. Aaron Hicks leading off was not good. Bats will eventually come around. Gleyber Torres is not a shortstop. Yankees need to send a message and take two of three this weekend from the Rays.

CC Sabathia Interview:
Yankees pitcher (2009-2019), 2009 World Series champion

  • 2009 CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM: Had so much fun that season. Surreal to win it in first year with the team and first year of new stadium. There was a lot of pressure on them to win that year.
  • POST-BASEBALL LIFE: Getting buff in the weight room, wants to be like The Rock. Is wrestling next in the cards? Pitching until he could not throw anymore. The last game and having to be physically helped off the mound.
  • STAYING IN GAMES: Didn’t want to come out of games. Didn’t watch film, relied on catchers. Too much analytics now in game. Looked at time with Brewers as pitching on three days rest giving him more chances to prove himself and make more money in free agency.
  • 3,000 STRIKEOUTS/HALL OF FAME: That was an emotional month. Special moment. Has not written Hall of Fame speech yet, hopes to get in. Wearing No. 42 was always special on Jackie Robinson Day.
  • JORDAN MONTGOMERY: Followed him around, like a little brother. Pitches to his strength and is like Andy Pettitte.
  • UNDER THE GRAPEFRUIT TREE: Emotional doing the documentary and telling his story in detail for the first time. His father was an influence in playing baseball.
  • METS FANS: Real fans of NY. “They deal with so much s–t.” Relates to them being a Raiders fan.
