The Yankees ace, who has been struggling of late, struck out eight of the first nine batter Orioles hitters in three perfect innings.
Ryan Mountcastle was the only Oriole who to put the ball in play in the first three innings, grounding out to shortstop in the second. Cole struck out the sides in the first and third frames. Unfortunately for Cole, Keegan Akin has kept the Bombers off the scoreboard through fourth.
Cole, who has nine strikeouts through four innings, will not be throwing a perfect game tonight, however. He gave up a double to Jose Iglesias with two outs in the bottom of the fourth.
Cole has not been his dominant self with the Yankees this season. He entered the game with a 4-2 record and a pedestrian 3.91 ERA.
