Yankees star closer Aroldis Chapman tested positive for the coronavirus and will be out for the “foreseeable future,” manager Aaron Boone said Saturday.

Chapman, 32, has had mild symptoms, Boone added, but “overall is doing well.”

In accordance with MLB protocol, Chapman won’t be allowed to rejoin the team until he has two consecutive negative tests, is free of fever for at least 72 hours and is cleared by a doctor.

DJ LeMahieu and Luis Cessa previously tested positive and have been isolating outside of The Bronx, where spring training 2.0 is taking place.

So far, no one else has tested positive after Chapman.

Zack Britton is a candidate to replace Chapman as closer if he’s unavailable when the regular season is scheduled to begin July 23 in Washington.

Chapman had taken part in spring training activities this past week. He missed the first day of spring training 2.0 while waiting for his intake COVID-19 results, which came back negative.

A subsequent test revealed Chapman’s diagnosis.

News of Chapman contracting the coronavirus comes as multiple players across the league have tested positive since the beginning of spring training 2.0 last week, while others have opted out of the 2020 MLB season.
