“#SAO, Great Pretender Anime Background Studio Bamboo Releases 1st Art Book”

If you’ve watched any popular anime in the last 16 years, you would have likely seen the work of anime studio Bamboo, which focuses solely on the background art in anime and other works. While the company’s website has some behind-the-scenes concept art, the studio will be releasing its first art book on May 21, showcasing some of their work from anime past.
The Amazon Japan listing for the book (above) shows that their work on Sword Art Online, Ghost in the Shell: Arise, and GREAT PRETENDER will be just a few of the series’ featured. The first half of the book will present “standard” backgrounds from 12 works, allowing the reader to look at the contrast between the works, and the second half will present backgrounds from 6 works that were drawn in unique ways, such as watercolors, painting, and more. All the backgrounds come with notes from the artists commenting on the piece.
The Bamboo Background Art Book goes on sale in Japan on May 21 for 3,520 yen (US$32.29) and available for pre-order right now.
