“Novelist Nisho Ishin Looks to the Past to Celebrate His 20th Anniversary”

It’s safe to say that Japanese writer Nisho Ishin is one of the most prolific authors of this century, with a ton of books to his name which has spawned countless franchises. From the Monogatari series to Pretty Boy Detective Club, Nisho Ishin has been a staple of the Japanese pop-culture media landscape for the past 20 years. To celebrate his achievements, his publisher Kodansha released a video looking back at his book series’, as well as what’s to come for Nisho Ishin.
As announced in the video, Nisho Ishin will be starting a new series in celebration of his 20th anniversary entitled “Kaito Flaneur no Junkai (Phantom Thief Flaneur’s Patrol).” “Flaneur” is a French word meaning stroll or walk. The new book releases in Japan on September 7 and features illustrations from TAKOLEGS. What’s more, in a surprise announcement, Nishio Ishin will be releasing a new book in the mainline Zaregoto series – the first full novel since 2005!
The video itself is narrated by Yuki Kaji, best known as the voice of Eren from Attack on Titan, with the script penned by Nishio Ishin himself and produced by whitepuzzle.

You can catch some of Nishio Ishin’s writing in the Monogatari anime series, which is streaming here on Crunchyroll. As well Medaka Box, which is adapted from the manga of the same name in which Nishio Ishin authored, and Pretty Boy Detective Club.
