#Woman shot dead in Bronx among eight victims in overnight gunplay

A woman was fatally shot and at least eight other people hurt by gunfire overnight across the Big Apple, continuing  the recent surge in shootings citywide,  police said Saturday.

Officers found the 25-year-old woman unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head, around 5:20 a.m. Saturday in front of East Cortland Avenue and 152nd Street in the Bronx, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cops swarmed the block Saturday morning, setting up tape and tarps to shield the scene and Crime Stoppers flyers seeking tips on a suspect.

The homicide followed a burst of five shootings elsewhere in the city earlier in the night, in a span of about 40 minutes.

Around 1 a.m. in the Bronx, a 19-year-old walked into Lincoln Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left foot, police said. He told authorities he was shot at Ryaway Avenue and Manida Street.

At roughly the same time in Harlem, an 18-year-old girl was shot in both of her legs at the corner of West 120th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard, cops said. The teen is expected to survive her injuries, authorities said.

Around 12:55 a.m., cops were called to the scene of a pair of shootings in Brooklyn and the Bronx.

A 23-year-old man walked into Brookdale hospital and said he’d been shot in his left hand, police said.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man was shot in the right arm near West Burnside Avenue and Loring Place, police said. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and expected to survive from his injuries.

At around 12:30 a.m. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a 27-year-old man was wounded in the left knee and a 28-year-old man was shot in his right leg, police said.

The night’s shooting spree began around 11:10 p.m. when an unidentified man approached a 23-year-old man as he sat inside a black Mercedes in the Bronx, blasting  him twice in the chest and once in the arm, according to police.

The victim, whose condition was unclear as of Saturday morning, was taken to Jacobi Hospital, according to police. He was unable to tell authorities where precisely the shooting took place, cops said.
