“#William Shatner to Visit the “Final Frontier” in Blue Origin Space Flight – Review Geek”

Blue Origin rocket and William Shatner

Now 90 years old, William Shatner will channel his inner Trekkie and make history next week by being the oldest person who’s flown to space. Shatner will take a trip to the final frontier in a Blue Origin rocket, sitting alongside Audrey Powers, who serves as the company’s vice president of Flight Operations, and two others.

Jeff Bezos took the first crewed flight to space in his company’s latest space vehicle, and now it’s time for others to enjoy the same journey.

Back in September, rumors started floating around that William Shatner could board the company’s next flight, and now it’s official. To be more specific, on October 12, Blue Origin’s New Shepard Vehicle will embark on a suborbital flight, and Shatner will become a “rocket man.”

Blue Origin has not publicly detailed the cost of a ride on New Shepard. However, it sold a seat on its first crewed mission at auction for $28 million, but the buyer gave up the seat at the last minute.

What makes this story even more unique is that Shatner famously played Captain James Kirk on “Star Trek,” and now he’ll get to see space in real life. According to Forbes, on stage at New York ComicCon, Shatner told the crowd, “I’m Captian Kirk, and I’m terrified,” and at one point mentioned he didn’t want to be known as the oldest guy in space.

If all goes according to plan, come October 12th, Blue Origin’s west Texas launch site will launch the New Shepard vehicle on a 10-minute space flight with William Shatner and three other passengers. You’ll likely be able to watch the live stream on BlueOrigin.com.
