#Will Season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club continue to follow the books?

Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club was great but will Season 2 change the style?

Season 1 of Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club was everything fans of the book and possibly new fans could dream of. With its spot-on casting, modernized plotlines, and lots of great friendship moments, the series was a delight. With only ten episodes in its first season, the series is a great one to binge over the course of a weekend or maybe, even a day.

With the success of the series, it brings up some interesting questions. First, will we be getting a second season of the series? Considering how popular it’s been, there’s no doubt Netflix will be ready to renew the gang for another season.

One thing that made Season 1 so special was the fact that it followed the books. The first eight episodes followed the original eight books while the last two episodes followed a super special.

The second question is will Season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club continue to follow the books or vary off on a different path? As with most questions, there is no right or wrong answer. It’s ultimately up to the writers of the series and their ability to adapt to each book. However, there are some pros and cons in deciding to do that so let’s get into the pros first.

Will Season 2 of The Baby-Sitters Club feature storylines from the books?

The first pro is easy and it’s that the writers already did it in Season 1. As noted above, Season 1 followed the first eight books in the series and then focused on a super special. It was a clear nod to the original series and showed how timeless the book series is. Oddly enough, they didn’t really have to change much from the series so kudos to Ann M. Martin for that.

While the writers did modernize some things, it didn’t feel out of place. Rather, things felt more realistic to the era we’re in now. With the first 10 books being published in the mid-to-late ‘80s, there was no way everything would have fit into this era.

Regardless, the writers were able to adapt and featured a majority of the same plotlines but with a little twist. In particular, it was nice to see the inclusion of a trans child Mary Anne watches during Episode 4.

Another pro is viewers will know what they’re getting and will be excited to return to a beloved series. With The Baby-Sitters Club, they wouldn’t need to change much. They might need to do a little bit of updating with the series, but not much else. This is one of the few times where a book adaptation managed to get it almost exactly as the original series intended. Changing things could hurt viewership which is the opposite of what they want.

As for the cons, there aren’t many but are worth noting. First, there is a possibility fans will get bored with the similar format. That’s always a strong possibility with any show but seems more applicable to The Baby-Sitters Club. As mentioned, these books were published in the ‘80s so some of the topics might not be able to be updated as well. It’s a clear flipside to the second pro.

As great as the series is, the writers might want to try something different. It’s not uncommon for shows and movies to deviate from the original book series. While it might only be a few small changes, it could be exactly what the show needs. While they don’t need to go the Pretty Little Liars route with more drama, the show could definitely branch out a little bit from its more boring plotlines.

The last con is obvious but The Baby-Sitters Club series is a long one and there is no way Netflix will adapt all of them. Changing some plotlines or writing entirely new stories could be exactly what the series needs. Changing those few things or writing new plotlines isn’t going to do anything to the original series. Fans will still be able to enjoy the book series and TV show equally without losing anything from either.

Ultimately, the choice will come down to the cast and crew of the show. If the series needs to be updated or things need to change, Netflix will handle it. Until we hear otherwise though, it seems like a good idea to stick to the original books. The major bonus is it will hopefully usher in an entirely new era for The Baby-Sitters Club book series. Either way, Season 1 of The Baby-Sitters Club exceeded any and all expectations fans of the original series had.
