Austin, Texas five-piece Why Bonnie have released “Galveston,” a new single out today on Missippi’s Fat Possum Records. The label released the band’s third EP, Voice Box, in April 2020.

On the new single, songwriter and lead vocalist Blair Howerton recalls childhood memories of beach trips to the track’s eponymous island city as her band jams whistfully behind her. In a statement, she called the song “an ode to Galveston, Texas — the capital of ghosts and good memories,” “one of the most literal recollections of growing up in Southeast Texas,” and “a snapshot of an old childhood haunt.”

The song comes with a video treatment that looks as nostalgic as the track sounds. Directed by Grace Pendleton, the short finds Howerton panning for gold on a beach at night until the sun comes up. Watch it below.
