#White House spokesman Hogan Gidley leaves for Trump campaign

WASHINGTON — White House spokesman Hogan Gidley is departing the West Wing to become national press secretary for Trump’s re-election campaign, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Gidley, who served as junior and then principal deputy press secretary after joining the White House in 2017, will be filling the role previously held by Kayleigh McEnany, who is now the White House press secretary.

“Hogan Gidley will be leaving the White House on July 1 and heading over to my campaign to be the National Press Secretary,” President Trump tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

“He is a strong, loyal and trusted member of the team that I know will do an outstanding job! We must WIN this election!” he continued.

One source told The Post in April that Gidley was “dying” to be considered for the press secretary role before it was given to McEnany earlier this year.

A two-decade veteran of Republican politics, Gidley previously worked for Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and the 2012 presidential campaign for Rick Santorum.

“Hogan Gidley has been at the President’s side for three years and now he joins the fight to re-elect him,” campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement.

“He is a talented advocate and defender of the President and his policies and is never afraid to go into battle with hostile reporters and television hosts. Hogan is a great addition to the team and makes us even stronger,” he continued.

“I am overwhelmingly humbled and deeply appreciative to President Trump for giving me a front row seat to witness history,” Gidley said.

“My time at the White House has truly been a blessing beyond measure and getting to speak directly to the American people on behalf of this President has been an incredible honor,” he added.

Gidley’s departure follows several staffing moves at both the White House and campaign as the November general election looms.

McEnany was tapped to replace Stephanie Grisham in April this year as part of an overhaul by then-incoming chief of staff Mark Meadows.

There is also increasing speculation that Parscale may be removed as the head of the campaign, with some of the president’s closest advisers pushing him to find someone more experienced at running national campaigns.
