#When Mets bench coach Hensley Meulens is expected to arrive at camp

Hensley Meulens has been absent from Citi Field since the start of spring training 2.0, but there is an expectation the new Mets bench coach will report to camp this week.

Manager Luis Rojas declined comment Monday when asked about Meulens. Once Meulens arrives, the Mets will have a full coaching staff, even if all are not present — hitting coach Chili Davis is working remotely because of coronavirus concerns.

Tim Teufel, the organization’s minor league infield coordinator, has been at workouts and could serve on the coaching staff if the Mets need a replacement at any point.

Michael Wacha threw three innings in a simulated game for his first work against batters. Matt Adams homered twice against Wacha, his former Cardinals teammate.

Among the Mets, Jacob deGrom was heavily involved with the players’ cause in the labor dispute between MLB and the MLBPA that delayed the season from the proposed July 4 start. But from deGrom’s perspective the season was never in jeopardy for economic reasons.

“I don’t think I ever thought that we weren’t going to play,” deGrom said. “I think being involved and listening with what was going on, it felt like both sides wanted to play and was just trying to figure out everything.

“There were so many unknowns, as far as the [coronavirus] and how this would work, how you can get guys in and keep everybody safe, so I think a lot of it was that and I feel that through the whole process both sides wanted to play baseball and here we are hoping to still play.”

Rojas was asked about reports teams have been late in receiving COVID-19 test results. There also have been reports of teams not having tests administered over the weekend. Players are supposed to be tested every other day.

“I’m not really focused on other camps, our focus is here,” Rojas said. “We have so much on our plate and I’m really pleased with what we have done. I am pleased with the setup that awaited us when we arrived and on the daily basis what we’re doing and the schedules we’re being able to implement so far, I am very pleased with that.”

Brandon Nimmo said he’s “100 percent” convinced Major League Baseball can complete this season — at least based on what he’s seen the past few days at Citi Field.

“With everything we’re doing here, I have 100 percent conviction we’ll be able to do this,” Nimmo said Monday. “But it takes everyone. All I can speak to is this facility. They are leaving no stone unturned.”

Nimmo said team personnel made sure everyone wore masks and sanitized.
