#What is Tencent’s Palm Payment | Available Countries

Since the 21st-century era started, technology has been rapidly improving. From how touchscreen devices took over the mobile market, you don’t even have to touch a device to get the job done. Tencent, a multibillionaire company, is bringing us into the future as they have recently launched the Palm Payment method.

What is Tencent’s Palm Payment all about?

Tencent Palm Payment is one method of payment in WeChat Pay. WeChat Pay is a digital payment platform created by a Chinese social media giant, Tencent Holdings. It is one of China’s most popular mobile payment services, with over one billion registered users. The platform offers various services, including in-store payments, online payments, peer-to-peer transfers, and bill payments.

Tencent Palm Payment is built into WeChat, allowing users to pay for services only by waving their hands. This integration enables users to make payments directly within the WeChat ecosystem.

How to use Tencent’s Palm Payment

How to use this ‘futuristic’ service is quite easy. Users must link their WeChat accounts to the device and register their palm prints. The next time users go to the services they have registered, they only need to hover their hand over the scanning area of the device, allowing seamless payment transactions.

Tencent also developed Palm Payment to make payment for services more accessible, especially for older people and those with disabilities.

“In our aim to improve efficiency and greatly simplify the user experience, we are making new technology more user-friendly for the elderly and accessible to people with disabilities,” the company said in the statement.

Who can use Palm Payment?

For now, the service is only available for people in Mainland China who have done the identity verification. But seeing how things improve at a rapid speed, it will soon hit common places such as offices, retail stores, universities, convenience stores, and restaurants.

The Palm Payment method currently focuses on public transportation services, like Daxing Airport Express and the Beijing Subway System. Users registered in the palm-recognition service can pay for rides on the Daxing Airport Express Line or the subway by hovering their hands over a scanner at metro station turnstiles. The unique palm print of each user triggers an automatic payment through the user’s WeChat account.

Countries available for Tencent’s Palm Payment

As of now, Tencent’s Palm Payment is only available to use in Mainland China. But it doesn’t mean that other countries won’t introduce this service in the future. When they first launched WeChat Pay, it was only available in China at first. However, the feature gradually started expanding to multiple countries.

From how WeChat Pay expanded, we can only assume that Tencent’s Palm Payment method will be available in the near future in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

What do you think about the Palm Payment method? Are you anticipating your own country to start using the system?
