The Eminence of Shadow official Twitter released a new anime preview trailer featuring Alpha voiced by Asami Seto. The anime is scheduled for October 2022. 

In addition, main cast of the anime are Seiichirou Yamashita as protagonist Cid Kagenou, Kana Hanazawa as Alexia Midgar, and Youko Hikasa as Iris Midgar, Inori Minase as Beta, Suzuko Mimori as Gamma, Fairouz Ai as Delta, Hisako Kanemoto as Episolon, Ayaka Asai as Zeta, and Reina Kondo as Eta. 

The Eminence in Shadow is based on the light novels by Daisuke Aizawa with illustrations from Azunishi, which began in 2018 and have four volumes as of February 2021. The story began as a web novel on Shouetsuka ni Narou and has inspired two manga series, including a comedic spin-off. The light novels are published under Kadokawa’s ENTERBRAIN label. The series has over 1.5 million copies in circulation. 

Yen Press describes the light novels’ first volume as:

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down.
