The new Lucid Air EV is an impressive vehicle with a lot to love, especially the high-end Lucid Air Dream Edition. Since making its debut last year, fans and enthusiasts have wondered how the $170,000 car would stack up vs. Tesla’s Model S Plaid Edition, and now we know.

The two went head-to-head in four drag races by DragTimes, and the results are impressive. And while neither car was able to win all four races outright, it’s certainly entertaining to see these two supersedans fight it out silently and at insane speeds down the track.

For those wondering, the Model S Plaid is Tesla’s high-end electric vehicle, coming in at $129,000 and delivering 1,020 hp. The Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance costs a little more, weighs around 400 extra pounds, and lists the horsepower at 1,111 hp (828 kW). Check out the video below to see how it all went down.

It’s worth noting that this track doesn’t have timing equipment or anything to make it official, but that doesn’t matter too much as the results speak for themselves. During four high-speed races, including one rolling start race, Tesla’s Model S Plaid had quite the advantage.

The only time the more expensive Lucid Air managed to win was when the Tesla driver did not use Launch Mode. That said, DragTimes mentioned that the Lucid Air’s dual-motor setup is geared for highway luxury driving, not straight-line speeds, so keep that in mind when comparing the results.

On the flip side, Tesla’s Model S Plaid does offer a “Drag Strip Mode” that preconditions the battery and drive unit to optimal conditions and temperatures for improved results. During these races, they did not enable Drag Strip mode. With all the conditions met, Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims the Model S Plaid can go from 0-60 in 1.99 seconds, which is faster than Lucid’s 2.5 second time.

Additionally, DragTimes went on to say that the track, winds, and cold outdoor temps weren’t ideal for racing, especially for electric vehicles. Still, this rare video gives us insight into how the two fancy cars perform in real-world scenarios.
