“iCloud for Windows Bug Could Let Strangers See Your Photos – Review Geek”

iCloud passwords for Windows
Apple, Windows

Several troubling reports from around the web seemingly confirm a huge security glitch with Apple’s iCloud for Windows. Nowadays, security is more important than ever, but several users have noticed photos of strangers in their Photo Library, along with corrupt or missing videos.

Yes, your iCloud images could appear in someone else’s photo library. And as you can probably imagine, that’s terrifying. According to 9to5Mac, users recently started reporting the problem on its forum, and the thread continues to get more comments from people experiencing something similar.

One user said that videos from his iPhone 14 Pro Max keep getting corrupted and are unusable in iCloud on Windows. Then, they mentioned seeing photos from unknown sources added to the video file.

“I’ve been shown photos of other people’s families I’ve never seen in my life, soccer games, and other random photos. Obviously, this is extremely concerning and does not exactly make me feel safe using iCloud.”

Oddly enough, when someone tries to watch one of the corrupt video files, they see random photos and videos that could be from another iCloud account entirely. Of the handful of online complaints, most are from those with an iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro.

Even worse, one report says it’s happening on both Windows 10 and 11, and deleting the iCloud for Windows app and reinstalling it did not fix the issue. Basically, it sounds like this could be on the backend with Apple. Maybe when the server processes a video and fails, it replaces the clip with images. We’re not entirely sure, but this doesn’t sound good either way.

As we all know, Apple frequently brags about its secure devices, strict privacy measures, and everything else it does to keep your data safe. And while that’s great, I certainly don’t want my iCloud images showing up on someone else’s computer.

We’ll keep an eye out for more details and update you as we learn more.
