#Britain finally reaches Brexit deal with European Union

Britain on Thursday finally reached a divorce deal for its exit from the European Union after more than four years of bitter negotiations.

“The deal is done,” UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted along with a photo of him joyfully giving two thumbs up.

EU officials also confirmed an agreement, which The Sun noted came four years, five months and 29 days after the UK voted in a referendum to leave the EU.

“We have taken back control of our money, borders, laws, trade and our fishing waters,” a source close to Johnson told Reuters.

“The deal is fantastic news for families and businesses in every part of the UK. We have signed the first free trade agreement based on zero tariffs and zero quotas that has ever been achieved with the EU.

“We have delivered this great deal for the entire United Kingdom in record time, and under extremely challenging conditions, which protects the integrity of our internal market and Northern Ireland’s place within it,” the source said.

The British and European parliaments both must hold votes on the agreement, though the latter may not happen until after the U.K. leaves the EU’s economic embrace on Jan. 1.
